Dashboard third years

Lasted updates: 13/2 Document pack for supervision 2024 uploaded / Registration and reregistration links updated / Second year schedule included

About the dashboard

This dashboard is relevant to students who study through Pretoria head office or online connected to head office. Students connecting to other regions should deal with local administrators directly. It is for students enroled for the practitioner supervision programme separately or combined with the CPD short courses programme at Pretoria Coram Deo. It is also for those who already submitted their file and remain in the practitioner collective through the community membership offers (See the website for fees. Look for community based pricing)

Those who also enroled for the CPD course as part of the combined porgramme should consult the CPD dashboard for more detail on short courses (will be updated towards the end of February)

Remaining registrations

We’re looking forward to seeing our third years, new and existing, in class tomorrow. Please finalise all registrations (new students as well as reregistrations as well as those who completed and will be joining our practitioner collective). Registration links further below.

Document pack 2024

The document pack offers the core documents around which the actual counselling-supervision process revolves.

You will notice the document pack in a few places: 1. Click on the button below for a direct link (this will be taken away in a week or so, 2. It will be embedded in a course structure on this website to limit access to only enrolled third years (this will be its permanent place where questions can be asked/answered about how to fill out these documents)

Confirmation of registration

The confirmation of registration is an important document to have when reaching out to individuals and organisations to show them that you are formally registered. Please send an email to students@coramdeo.co.za to get the password for the following link where you can download your registration confirmation:

http://coramdeo.co.za/verification/confirmation-of-registration-sup/

After submitting your file there is also a confirmation of studies document that verifies you have completed the programme.

Narrative Academy learning group

Please request to join this learning group on the website. This is the central communication and learning platform for our group. The weekly classes will be embedded in the ‘course’ tab of this group. Sometimes it is set not to show while working on some aspects. It would be good practice to ‘drag and drop’ this link to your bookmarks bar of the browser you use for easy acces..

Let’s help online student connect

Attendance, register (oh, do remember)

Please fill out the attendance register for any kind of supervision event whether regular meetings or events specifically arranged for supervision students (like involvement with entities outside of Coram Deo)

Professional associations and councils

The document pack will still see updates regarding accountability organisations. The below are provided in the meantime.

The Practitioner Collective consists of students from different parts of their third-year journey (new, re-registered or those who already completed all the formal requirements and submitted their files). Practitioner Collective members work with the public and as such it advised to register at any of the councils or associations for third-party accountability.

There are many councils for the different helping roles (from Psychology to Social Work to Professional Facilitation and more). Those registered at other councils (example Psychologists) should find out to what extent their council sees pastoral/spiritual conversations as part of their scope of practice.

In the pastoral counselling space:

CPSC is the most formal accountability organisation for specifically pastoral counselling in South Africa. Visit their website for more detail: https://www.cpsc.org.za/

In the pastoral but particularly narrative therapy space (also for coaching, facilitation and other helping modalities):

SignoPro is the only accountability organisation for Collaborative and Narrative Therapy in South Africa (keeping a free directory listing for members). The button-link should only be used by Coram Deo students.

Let’s finalise registrations

Supervision topics and schedule

Supervision is not about learning about new topics although we do introduce new topics. This will be explained later. Our topics for the year include working with conflict, healthy aging, illness narratives, topics/concerns relevant to counselling practice or the application of narrative ideas.

The meeting days are set. Topics for days might change on occasion.

Very important. The date column specifies a Monday (the beginning of the week) during which students will then have class or not on that Wednesday. Try your best to schedule conversations with people during the ‘open’ weeks.

Supervisors

Coram Deo has a supervision network across the country. Supervisors are mostly current and past counsellors and lecturers. It is possible to use a supervisor that we do not necessarily know as long as they agree to some terms and conditions that we set. See the document pack for more details.

Note that supervisors need to have at least eight years counselling practice experience and, or, have completed a postgraduate degree in a helping-profession.

Approved supervisor list

Coram Deo supervisors

Any of the current lecturers of Coram Deo in Pretoria can be approached for supervision. We are busy updating the list and profiles.

External supervisors

External counsellors/supervisors and practitioners can be approached with supervision as long as they have either, though preferably both:

  • A minimum of eight years active registered counselling experience (registered either at a professional association or council). Coram Deo regards a minimum of eight years to be a senior counsellor. That in and of itself does not necessarily make a person a supervisor.
  • A postgraduate degree in a helping-profession such as for counselling.

External supervisors can be considered if they meet at least the above criteria. They may be used for no more than ‘six sessions’ / They have to agree to our programme terms and outcomes / They have to be appointed by a letter of appointment from Coram Deo prior to supervision sessions commencing.

Approach a supervisor

External supervisors

Ask about their background to see if they qualify. Tell them about the programme and get approval that Coram Deo can reach out to them. We will need their email and telephone number. Do not make an appointment with them at this stage.

For all supervisors

Reach out to them. Tell them you are an enrolled supervision students. Ask if they are open to a supervision conversations at the time (they might be too busy at that point in time). Give them proper time to prepare. Submit what you’d like to discuss and send whatever you need to send them (like transcripts on some occasions) at least four days in advance. Ask them how they’d like to receive it (for instance via email).
